Never met a PC that didn't have Windows Defender and Malware Bytes on it (because the OS sucks). Sure it's gotten better, but it still sucks.

All I care about is interface speed and ease of use, and Mac trounces PC in ease of use (mouse movement, button behavior, etc) and generally is close on interface speed (sometimes Mac is faster, sometimes PC is faster). If render speed is a big issue for you, PC may make sense. The NLE (assuming Avid or Premiere) is effectively the same and often will run a bit faster (and may render quite a bit faster). I also own a PC and I'm writing on it this very second! It's not the worst-thing-ever, but there are many reasons not to work on PCs. I have worked on PCs, I probably will again.

The only scenario when it’s ALMOST okay to use ExFAT is if you know for certain that the drive will be used only as a temporary shuttle and the client won’t work off of that drive - but what usually happens is that the client will say “oh yeah, we’re going to copy this to a faster drive immediately” but then don’t, and then the volume gets borked a few months later and everyone hopes you have been keeping a copy of the data because they never bothered to back it up as instructed. It is true that since it’s the file index that becomes damaged data recovery is usually possible, but you’re looking at half a day or more lost while waiting for that to happen. Particularly when the drive with the ExFAT volume is unplugged without being safely ejected (and if you have ever had any client ever you’ll know they can be lazy about this).Īdditionally, ExFAT volumes created on MacOS are somehow even more susceptible to this behavior. The result of which is that ExFAT volumes are notorious for becoming corrupted. It’s an extension of FAT32, however unlike modern file systems it only has a single file index and its unjournaled.
